ごあいさつ

[木のデザイン]公募展2013を長野県軽井沢町、北海道下川町、当館との共催で開催い たします。
本展2013は、森林の環境と資源を意識し、「木の文化」の新しい形を展覧会を通じて 提案・発信していくプロジェクトです。 当館では、2010年より、地域資源に意識を向け、木の文化やライフ・スタイルの再考 を提案し展覧会を通じて発信していく 芸術活動として、[木のデザイン]プロジェクトを行っております。

本展では、一般公募で厳正な審査をへて選出された入選作品22作品を展示紹介いた します。 尚、本プロジェクトの一環として、北海道環境未来都市下川町にて実施いたしました アーティスト・イン・レジデンスに ご参加いただいた芸術家、デザイナー、3名の作品も同時展示いたします。

当美術館の設立者でもある画家、脇田和は、その独自の美の世界観の完成にいたる制 作過程において、素材や技法をはじめ、 新しい事物にも自ずから積極的に取り組む、豊かな探究心をもった芸術家でした。ド イツ留学時代には、家具などデザインへの関心を深め、 帰国後も新制作建築部に参加の建築家やデザイナーたちとも交流を密にし、優れた デザインへ向ける意識の高さは晩年になっても 決して衰えることがありませんでした。

本事業は、そのような脇田の美意識と姿勢を根底にしつつ、現代の今を生きるクリエ イターの創造力を刺激し、 人と地域を結ぶ文化交流の拠点となり、芸術をもって社会と文化の進展に寄与するこ とを願うものであります。

展覧会開催にあたり、多方面より多大なご協力をいただきました。厳正な審査対応を していただいた審査員の皆様、 趣旨にご賛同下さりご協力をいただきました フィンランド大使館、フィンランドセンター、東京ドイツ文化センター、イタリア文 化会館の皆様に深い感謝を捧げます。

そして、意欲的な作品を寄せて下さった応募者の皆様に、心から感謝の意を表します。

Greetings

We are happy to announce that we will hold the 2013 Design in Wood Competition & Exhibition, co-hosted by the Town of Karuizawa-machi in Nagano Prefecture, and Town of Sgimokawa in Hokkaido Prefecture.

The Design in Wood Competition & Exhibition is a project that introduces and proposes new forms of “Culture of Wood”.

Wakita Museum of Art has been working on “Design in Wood” project as an artistic activity since 2010, aiming to promote awareness of local resources, by proposing reconsideration for the culture of wood and lifestyle that are expressed through the exhibition.

Twenty-two artworks selected from the works by the general public, through rigorous judging process, will be displayed in the exhibition.

Furthermore, the works by the three artists/designers, who participated as artists in residence, which took place, as part of this project, in the town of Shimokawa-cho, the future environmental city of Hokkaido, will also be exhibited at the same time.

Painter Kazu Wakita, also the founder of this museum, was an artist who had a spirit of inquiry, working positively on new challenges, including materials and techniques, in his creative process to complete his unique world-view of beauty. While he was studying in Germany, he deepened his interest in design such as furniture, and upon his return to Japan, he continued close contact with architects and designers who participated in the Architecture Department of Shin Seisaku Association, with inexhaustible high level of consciousness in excellent designs, even in his final years.

The goal of this project is to stimulate the creativities of creators who live in the present, to become the hub of cultural exchanges to connect people and regions, and to contribute to the social and cultural development, while keeping such aesthetic consciousness and attitude of Wakita as the basis.

We have received a great amount of support from various fields, to make the exhibition possible. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the judges who executed rigorous judging process, people at the Embassy of Finland, the Finish Institute in Japan, Goethe Institute Tokyo, and Istituto Italiano Di Cultura Tokyo, who agreed with the purpose and generously offered their support.

Furthermore, I would like to add my heartfelt appreciation for those who applied and contributed many aspiring works.

Lastly, I would like to extend grateful thanks to the people involved parties who were kind enough to offer us precious advice, including every one of you who offered us patronage, support and cooperation.
