はかなくとも、美しく発光する小さな魂。

与えられたフォルムと色彩は、物語をつむぎながら、

1950年 油彩・キャンバス- 脇田和は、10代でドイツ ・ベルリンに学びました。帰国後、小磯良平や猪熊弦一郎らとともに新制作派協会を創立し、戦後はヴェネチア ビエンナーレやピッツバーグ国際美術展などの国際展や、米国国務省による日米美術交流プログラムにも積極的に参加し、国内外で活動を続けていきました。身の周りの日常に注がれる温かなまなざしはいつもかわらず、さまざまな素材や技法への好奇心や、色と色が織りなす滑らかなリズムと美しさへの追求を、筆を置くその日まで止めることはありませんでした。本展では、脇田和が1日軽井沢に制作の居を移した1970年代から晩年までの作品を中心に、油彩、素描、コラージュ作品など、約100余点を展示し紹介していきます。館内には日本のモダニズムを代表する建築として知られるアトリエ 山荘（友人であった建築家・ 吉村順三設計）が当時のまま保存されております。
その約80年に及ぶ画業の集積を美循館の空間の隅々で楽しむことができます。 -
Reminiscence of the birds
＜15Years＞ Kazu Wakita Retrospective Exhibition
- Kazu Wakita studied in Berlin, Germany, when he was a teenager. After returning to Japan, he founded Shin Seisaku-ha Kyokai (the Art group association) with Ryohei Koiso and Genichiro Inokuma. After the war, he actively participated in international exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale, the Pittsburgh International Art Exhibition, and Japan-US Art Exchange Program by the US Department of State, and continued his activities both at home and abroad. Always keeping warm eyes on his everyday life, he never stopped his curiosity about various materials and techniques, as well as the pursuit of beauty and smooth rhythm woven by colors, until the day when he put down his brushes. This exhibition introduces about 100 works including oil paintings, sketches and collages, focusing on those from the 1970s to the later years when Wakita moved to Karuizawa. Atelier Villa (designed by his friend, Junzo Yoshimura), which is known as the architecture that represents Japanese modernism, is preserved inside the building as it was at the time.
You can enjoy the collection of artworks during the period of about 80 years, in every corner of the gallery.

脇田 和 KAZU WAKITA (1908−2005年)
1908(明治41)年東京生まれ。15歳の時ベルリンに渡り、17歳でベルリン国立美術学校に入学。1930(昭和5)年同校より金メダルを贈られ帰国。1932(昭和7)年太平洋画会初入選。以後、光風会、帝展などで受賞を重ねる。1936(昭和11)年猪熊弦一郎、小磯良平らと新制作派協会(現・新制作協会)を設立。戦後、1950年代にはサンパウロ・ビエンナーレ、ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ等に出品。「あらそい」が第１回グッゲンハイム国際美術賞に輝いた。1959〜70年東京藝術大学で教鞭をとる。1970(昭和45)年、軽井沢に吉村順三設計によるアトリエ山荘が完成。1991(平成３)年『脇田美術館』を開設。1995( 平成７) 年〜2012（平成24）年、東京・第一生命本社ビルに脇田和作品常設ギャラリー。2005(平成17)年11月27日永眠。1991(平成3)年旭日小綬章。1998(平成10)年文化功労者。2005(平成17)年従四位を追賜。

Biography
KAZU WAKITA (1908−2005)
Born in Tokyo in 1908. He had a chance to move to Berlin at the age of 15 and entered the National Art School of Berlin at the age of 17. He was awarded a gold medal from the school in 1930, and returned to Japan. He was awarded his first prize at the Taihei Youga Kai in 1932, followed by many awards at Kofukai and the Imperial Fine Arts Academy Art Exhibition (Teikoku Bijutsu-in). Founded Shin Seisaku-ha Kyokai (currently Shin Seisaku Kyokai) with Ryohei Koiso and Genichiro Inokuma. After the war, in the 1950s, his works were exhibited at the Sao Paulo Biennale, the Venice Biennale, etc. He won the first Guggenheim International Art Award. He taught at Tokyo University of the Arts from 1959 to 1970. Atelier Villa designed by Junzo Yoshimura was completed in Karuizawa in 1970. “Wakita Museum of Art” was opened in 1991. A permanent gallery of Kazu Wakita's works was open at the Dai-ichi Life Headquarters Building in Tokyo, from 1995 to 2012. He passed away on November 27, 2005. His contributions were recognized with The Order of the Rising Sun in 1991, and Person of Cultural Merits in 1998. He was raised to Junior Fourth Court Rank after his death.
